About

I’m a freelance writer, editor and communicator. I spent a good chunk of my career as a science journalist, working for publications like New Scientist, Nature, Science, The Economist, the Toronto Star and many others. For the last decade I’ve worked in communications. That includes time as director of communications at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, and as associate director of communications at the University of Toronto, Scarborough.

I majored in English and Journalism at Ohio University, and have a masters in science writing from Johns Hopkins University. During my early career I held down jobs at the Columbus Citizen-Journal, the Stuart (Fla.) News, the Westchester (N.Y.) Business Journal, the Baltimore Business Journal, and in the Washington, DC office of New Scientist.

These days I’m a writer and consultant, working on freelance writing and institutional publications and communications.

I live in Toronto with my family.
